With three regular rounds remaining, the excitement within the North West Men’s League is ramping up as teams look to secure their place as League Leaders or a spot in the Play Offs.
In the Premier Division, Orrell St James lead the way, but St Helens based clubs Haresfinch and Blackbrook aren’t too far behind, with Dalton and Ashton Bears in 4th and 5th respectively looking to secure their place in the top four. Having been promoted at the start of the season, Dalton have possibly surprised a few teams with their current position, but the team have had a talented squad of players available to them and at their disposal.
It’s a two horse race to be declared League Leaders in Division 1, with Hindley six points clear of West Bank Bears, but the Widnes outfit have a game in hand. Plus, with the sides meeting this weekend (30th August), it could be decided with a Hindley win. Again, after being promoted, West Bank Bears continue to progress in their aim to return to the Premier Division.
As for the Play Off spots, any team from 3rd down to 8th could make the top four, so every game counts from now.
There are four teams vying for 1st place in Division 2, with the top three made up of promoted teams, Wigan St Judes NWML, Garswood Stags, and Runcorn Highfield, plus Newton Storm in 4th. The teams in 5th to 7th can mathematically still make it into the Play-Offs also.
Finally, in Division 3, Spring View have already declared themselves as League Leaders, with 14 wins and 1 loss from 15 fixtures. Blackpool Scorpions, Culcheth Eagles, and Higginshaw, have also earned their place in the Play-Offs with three rounds still to play.
With plenty still to play for within the North West Men’s League, the final run-in promises to be an interesting watch.
Once the final rounds are completed, the Play-Offs will be played on Saturday 27th September, before the Grand Finals take place at West Bank Bears on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October.
